importing raw h264 files
Can Sony Vegas (7.0e) import raw (elementary) h264 tracks? I have demuxed a file I got from somewhere else and I now stand with video.264 and audio.ac3. I would like to remux them with Vegas to a more compatible format like avi or wmv, but when I drop the 264 file on the media bin in Vegas it just says “None of the files dropped on vegas could be opened” Is this an issue, or is it just not supported?

it all depends on how they were encoded. Yes, Vegas will open some mp4 files, and not others, depending on the file itself.

I ran the file through Mediainfo () to get information on the file. It only said it was a MPEG-4 AVC advanced profile encoded file, nothing about encoding application or library en technique or anything. Do you know a reliable way to find out which files can be opened in Vegas? Besides trying and failing, that is.

Does anyone know if Vegas will be able read the AVC-Intra files from Panny’s new 3000 camera? I know… but I thought I would ask.

The immediate answer is “nope.”
If Panasonic does with AVC I what they’ve done with DVCPro, it’ll be a while til anyone can read their files.
