  • Importing Quicktime File into FCP – How do I set In/Out points

    Hello everyone,

I am doing some organization/pre-edit. I am taking a bunch of old footage and preparing it to be put onto a hard drive.

There are some Quicktime movie files that the client would like, but only parts of the file.

What is the best way to import/log and capture/transfer (merely just set In and Out points) only part of the Quicktime file from one hard drive to another, to be eventually used for FCP.

    Thanks for your help,

Copy the QT file (same folder or to another drive),. Open the copy in Quicktime Player (since you have FCS/FCP you have QTPro editing features). Mark an IN and an OUT, set “Trim to Selection” and Save, using some useful naming convention. Import the trimmed up file. It would be a good idea to leave sufficient handle on both ends. Of course you could do this to the original if you won’t ever need to recover trimmed out material.
