  • importing quicktime file into FCP doesn”t work

    Hi All,

I was given a dvd of a video that I need to pull the files from and edit into a different project.

So I copied the Video_TS folder from the DVD to my hard drive.
Then I converted the .VOB files to Mpeg4 using Handbrake.

The new mpeg4 files open and work in Quicktime.

But when in FCP I ask it to import the mpeg4 files and it does not work. Why?

FCP says this when I try to import:
“File error: 1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown”

When I try to open it in FCP instead of importing it, FCP says:
“Final Cut Pro does not support this frame rate or the way it is represented.”

But when in Handbrake I set the settings to 29.97 framerate with the Quicktime presets.

Does anyone know how I can fix this and/or know of another program like handbrake that I can download for free that will convert .VOB files to mpeg files that FCP will support?

    Thanks for all the help!
    Jon

Hand break makes HIGLY compressed files that are fine for watching but NOT fine for editing.
