  • Importing Quick Times with Alpha from AE into Avid

Posted by David Fleury on September 8, 2007 at 4:53 am

Can anybody clue me in to this process, i.e. output settings from AE and import settings into Avid?

I can get it to work by exporting my AE comps as Tiff sequences but I have no luck at all with QT.

When I get my QT into Avid it reads the whole frame as the Alpha Channel.

I’ve spent two days with different export / import settings with no luck. I must be missing something VERY obvious.

    thanks in advance

In Avid when you import, try the “reverse” option on the alpha import settings. When I export a QT out of After Effects for Avid that option always works. If you have already tried just let me know and I can provide more specifics, but that usually is the issue.

you have to invert the alpha in your imnport settings for images and image sequences. You’ll maintain alpha with QTs.

Hey everybody, Thanks for the replies. I have already tried inverting the alpha channel and that seemed to make no difference.

I posted this question in the AE forum as well and got a response there about rendering with the Avid codec, which I am doing.

I am going to try that suggestion tommorow morning to see if it works. I will post it as the solution if it works.

    Thanks

your nor using an avid codec now?
This wot affect your alpha but will highly increase your import times.

Switching to the Animation codec did the trick.
