    Okay, here’s the scenario!

I’m on An Avid Adrenaline PC. I created Photoshop files with alpha keys. Upon importing them, I received the dialog box asking if I wanted a sequence of layers, flattened image etc. Everything worked excellently like it always did in the past.

In the middle of my session, all of a sudden, files wouldn’t import correctly. It no longer gave me that dialog box but instead started importing as if they were quicktime MOVs with alpha keys. It imports as a matte key clip 2 frames long instead of the traditional sequences with layers/tracks.

The psd files that were previously imported CORRECTLY are now NOT importing correctly (same problem). It is the same computer as when they were first imported. As I wrote, it was the same edit session when things started going crazy.

I tried importing the files on another computer, they import fine with all the appropriate dialog boxes and layers.

FIXES I HAVE TRIED: I tried EVERY flavor and combination of importing options in the importing dialog box (non-square, odd field, etc). Tried trashing MC state, and site settings (not the attributes though). Tried importing to the harddrive. Tried creating a whole new project AND user settings. Tried powering down the comp and the Adrenaline box. Everything results in the same problem.

It’s almost as if the Avid import settings are being overriden to interpret all psd files as a quicktime mov with alpha key even though it is a single image file. Or it feels like there is a corrupt setting in the import feature, but I have no idea how to rebuild that or if it one even exists. Or perhaps its as if a command was entered into the console to override the settings (if one even exists).

PLEASE HELP we are all stumped here.

    Uncheck Autodetect Sequential Files. Reimport.

WAY ahead of you. Didn’t work.

This is really baffling. Again, it seems as if the Avid wants to import psd files as quicktime movs with alpha keys.

It imports JPEGs just fine. And it is just my computer and the other ones are fine. It is a major inconvenience to stop down the other sessions to keep loading graphics and it doesn’t help rectify the problem on my computer.

    It’s a stumper, huh?

Are these independent imports each time, or are you deleting the media and batch importing? I ask because a batch import will remember the previous settings unless you change them and choose to override them, but even then I don’t believe it will override the Autodetect Sequential Files command. If it imports it once and thinks it’s a 2 frame movie, it will reimport it as a movie with Batch Capture, regardless of your change in import settings.

Otherwise, this is weird. I’ve never heard of this issue before. Have you made a new user and tried that?

This sounds like a simular problem that I have every once in a while. Try going back into photoshop and resaving the file with a new name.

    Good Luck

Yes, these are brand new imports and not batch imports. when I try to batch import, the same thing happens. This is extremely odd to say the least. It seems more and more like there is a corrupt codec or something like that.

I have also tried new projects and new user settings all giving the same result.

I think I may have stumped the audience….

Tried doing that. Still is importing incorrectly.

how many layers does the photoshop file have? i have found that if it contains more than 5 the Avid struggles with import. How i got around this was merge a couple of the layers and rename the file.

I was having problems with layers importing, though under slightly different circumstances.
I was seriously about to have a coronary, but then I figured that 16 bit color psd’s don’t seem to work; you have to change it down to 8 bit (Image -> Mode -> 8 bits / channel)
    Hope this helps someone.
