I just upgraded to CS4, and am trying to import Photoshop files. for some reason, no matter what file I use, it won’t give me the prompt screen that allows me to chose a merged image or individual layers. It automatically imports it in as a single flattened image.

Did they change something? Is there a new method? What am I missing?

Do the images that you’re trying to import use the RGB color model? If the images use another color model—e.g., CMYK—then the images will be imported as flattened.

For more information, see the “Preparing and importing Photoshop files” section of After Effects Help.

I found this by searching After Effects Help for ‘Photoshop flattened’.
