  • Importing photos to the timeline in Vegas

Simple question… I have a hundred powerpoint slides to insert into a lecture. They are approximately 3×4 or standard-def. in shape… The video is wide-screen. I need to block the main video track from appearing on the sides of the screen when displaying each slide.

What I have been doing in the past is adding black borders to each slide with Irfanview batch processor. Simple but effective. But isn’t there a way to do this in Vegas, besides the brute force method in Irfanview?

    Todd,

Put a track below the slides and insert a black (or any color) generated solid under each slide. Instead of inserting a new solid each time, strech it out and keep cutting of a new piece to put under the next slide.

…and if you use a color that matches the slide background, no one will even know that you had to extend it. If the slide background has a pattern, use an image of just the slide background on the lower track.

Wow, I thought there would be a setting to make Vegas build a mask or crop or stretch the images upon import. It seems, the batch processor in Irfanview will be easier than cutting and stretching the generated solid 100 times by hand… Thanks to all for your help.

Thanks will try that. For the current job I found that my powerpoint slides were 2250 x 3000 so I multiplied 2250 x 16/9 = 4000 and added 500 of border to left and right side of each slide in Irfanview, working great. Thanks man.

You don’t have to add 100’s of solids, just one long one to match the length of your video.

James, he has tracks below that he want to see.

It sounds like he wants a magic button to do the work when the media doesn’t match. If the slides were 16:9 in the first place there wouldn’t be a problem. This is a lesson in plan your work, or know how to fix it to make it work.
