So Basically, I have a logo, and I want a different clip to show up in each letter. I created the basic text in Illustrator and would like to import the text paths into AE for use as masks. I have read that it is as easy as copying and pasting but I cannot seem to do this. Is there something in the preferences of either application I must set?

I am using AE 5.5, Illustrator CS on a Powerbook G4.

you must change your preferences in Illustrator so your clipboard retains the path data, and copy it onto an adjustment layer in AE

preferences/filehandlingandclipboard/preserve paths — then change the layer from the adjustment layer to a regular layer after you paste in the path.
