Importing Pansonic P2 Volume
Posted by Melissa Yu on July 19, 2006 at 9:25 amFinal Cut Pro is no longer recognizing certain paths to contain P2 volumes, even though these paths originally contained P2 volumes. Any idea why this might be?

July 19, 2006 at 5:05 pmIs everything in the CONTENTS folder? YOu must copy the CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.txt file from the P2 card EXACTLY as they appear. You cannot rename the CONTENTS folder or it won’t import. You cannot take just the files from inside the folder or they won’t import.
Have you changed things in any way?

July 20, 2006 at 4:49 amHey thanks. I actually found an earlier posting of yours regarding similar subject and was able to figure it out based on that information. I did change the name of Contents folder while copying and didn’t change it back to the exact same way it was. That was the problem. Thanks again!

July 20, 2006 at 7:23 amHere’s another question:
Upon importing P2 volumes, Final Cut generates capture scratch movie files of the material. At this point do I no longer need the original P2 files? Can I delete them to make room for more drive space?

July 21, 2006 at 11:07 pmYour P2 file prior to generating the QT files IS your master tape. Treat it the same way. If you have another copy archived somewhere else (the master on the shelf, so to speak), you don’t need the P2 files on your editing drive anymore and they can be deleted. if you don’t have another copy, be sure to make one before your delete the original P2 files. The QT files could become corrupted or have some other problem and you won’t have a way to recover or “re-capture” them without the original P2 files.
