  • Importing .obj into C4D?

    Hello the COW!

I just wanted to check…I’m about to download a .obj format 3D model from Turbo Squid. From all that I’ve read, C4D supports importing .obj files, correct? Does anyone have any red flags for me to watch out for? BTW, I’m using C4D 9.1.

    Thanks,
    Jason

Yep, Cinema does a good job importing .obj files. The only red flag is that it doesn’t read associated .mtl files, so you’ll have to assign materials by hand. Or … you can dowload the free Riptide plugin which does handle .mtls, and provides more control over the import process. https://www.skinprops.com/fr_c4d.htm

Also, people sometimes trip over the fact that there’s no “Import” option in the File menu. If you use the default C4D importer instead of RipTide, just “Open” the .obj file like any other file.
