Importing MXF HD into CS4 on MAC
Hey folks – Shooting a project in 720p and the client wants to do the rough cuts in-house on their own system. In the past, I’ve imported the footage in PPro here and exported MOV files for them to use at their office.
Can I give them the native MXF files shot with the HVX200 and allow them the capability to edit with AE CS4 on a Mac? Will they need any additional software or plug-in’s to be able to handle the MXF files? I’m cutting with Matrox AXIO LE on a PC so I’m clueless what it takes to cut on a MAC.

I believe they need to download the software used to read the mxf files at the panasonic site…

All I could find on the Panasonic site was the P2 CMS for Mac. Is that all it takes?

If they are using CS3 or CS4 After Effects then the MXF files should come in without any extra plugins. But I need to point out that AE is not an editing App it’s a compositing and motion graphics app so I wouldn’t suggest anyone tried to actually edit with it as there is no realtime playback without a ram preview. If they have Prem CS3 or CS4 then that would be the way to go for an edit. Then AE for graphics, grading, compositing.
