    HI!
Its quite interesting because I found in Vegas 10 help, how yo import mxf files from a device – camera, but not from a simple hard drive. Anf this is my case. From the explorer menu when I drop the file to the timeline, nothing happens…. And from the xdcam explorer window there is no way to import from the hard drive…..I have a bunch of mxf clips captured from a xdcam sd sony camera direct to a external HD form a friends computer tha has avid on it. I got this HD but couldnt open ant files in vehas 10 on my computer.
    What am I missing???
    Tks and happy new year!!

Jorge, I don’t understand and maybe the Sony MXF is somehow different. I shoot Canon MXF and I routinely go to the folder where my flles are, and dig down into the folder structure to them. They come in fine. Remember, MXF (on Canon anyway) has a folder for each file, and you dig into that to see the individual files.

On Canon, I can use a tool from Canon, called XFUtility, and EXPORT to MXF and it strips all the non essential files out and just dumps the MXF video files into one directory of my choosing. I assume that Sony has a utility that can do the same.

So does that clarify it? Are you going deep enough into the folder structure to see the actual video file?

By the way, I play Brazilian Choro music, and have a number of videos from performances by some of your countrymen, like Dudu Maia, up here at workshops outside Seattle. Check out https://vimeo.com/34117278

We love choro music up here! Tenha uma boa noite! (if my translation is right)

I’ve never worked with MXF files, but you should just be able to drop them into the timeline.

Yes, Steve, I’m doing this all the time, again with my XF300.

The MXF wrapper contains Canon’s MPEG2, and I can work directly on them on the Vegas Timeline, just as I did with SD-DV footage. In fact I’ve been mixing both together, with careful recognition as to the demands this makes on VP11 (ouch!), and VP10 (not so ouch!).

    Grazie

Jorge, give the Sony XDCAM EX Clip Browser a try (it’s free).
