Importing MXF Files From a Panasonic P2 Card
Posted by Michael Combs on September 6, 2006 at 7:01 pmI can’t get Premier Pro 2.0 to open the .mxf files from a Panasonic HVX200 recorded onto the P2 card. Is there any way to open them other than buying the 400 dollar Cineform, DV Film or Axio programs? Panasonic said these files could be used in any NLE so I hope there is a cheaper way. Help!

September 6, 2006 at 8:43 pmHi…
you might have a look at this:

Haven’t tested it yet….so I’d be interested to hear about your results…

I couldn’t find any info on whether it changes the codec or not. Unless there’s a licensed DVCPROHD codec in there, the material not only needs to change container format, it will need to be transcoded if there is no DVCPROHD codec on the system.

Unfortunately, at this point Premiere Pro doesn’t support the MXF file format, without the use of 3rd party plugins.Aanarav Sareen

September 8, 2006 at 7:09 pmHi Guys…
Here’s what I got from MOG on this subject:
“According to our tests, if you have installed the DVCPRO codecs that ship with P2Viewer, MXF2AVI should convert successfully those files to AVI format”
Looks like P2 viewer is available here:
The question is what codec you would use as a destination….
Not really sure what you would use that’s Windows Standard….
Any suggestons?
As an add on, how abut something like Main Concept’s MPEG PRO HD

September 11, 2006 at 1:09 pmDoes anyone have any experience using a third party application to convert MXF-files to edit in Premiere Pro? I’m shooting a project in DVCPRO50, MXF-format, and wondering if I should go for the windows approach, or just surrender and do the editing in Final Cut.
