importing .max files???

Mapping textures and responding to lighting isn’t that important to me, BUT……would I at least be able to move the parts around and rotate the knife? You know, could I unfold the blades, etc.?

Just to clarify, AE imports images rendered from 3D apps, not 3D scene files, not 3D model files. So MAX files? No. The Adobe doc could be clearer on this issue.

In some cases, you can also import lights and a camera to work with AE’s 3D layers and that rendered image(s) of which I spoke.

However, through the Zaxwerks Invigorator plugin, you can import some 3D models into AE, but you’d have to confirm that on the Zaxwerks site since I haven’t used Invig in a while. C4D for me, see?

As much as I remember, Zaxwerks Invigorator imports only .3ds files (which are 3ds Max object files), but not the .max files (which are scenes files). In some online stores you can buy models in different formats but not in your case, you have no choice – this knife comes only in .max format.
But if you are lucky owner of CS4, you may import your model in Photoshop CS4 Extended, export it as PSD and import it into AE (but you have to confirm that, I just watched a tutorial that generally explains the procedure, that’s it).
