hi… i’m at my wits’ end. i’m trying to import illustrator layers into after effects so that i can animate them. no matter what i do, i can’t get a.e. to import the layers, instead i always get one merged file. i know this question has been asked before, but the advice i’ve read doesn’t seem to work.

i know that in order to import in this way, all paths that you want to import as separate layers have to be on their own layers, so in case they aren’t you use the “release to layers (sequence)” option. then you save and import as a composition in after effects.

i’ve done this, but i still get the same result, even if i pull all my paths onto separate layers.

any idea what i could be doing wrong??

    Kai,
Are you saving your AI files with the “Create PDF Compatible File”
    tab selected in AI?

    hi, thanks for your reply.

yes, if you mean in the “file handling and clipboard” tab under preferences, the two boxes under “clipboard on quit” are ticked: copy as pdf and aibc.

i don’t have any such option in the save dialog box, is there something i’m missing there?

    thanks,

    kai
