Hi there….feeling like an idiot but thought I’d better put my ego aside and ask this basic question.

I’m having trouble importing video from my Sony HDR SR12 to my Vegas MovieStudio Platinum software. When I first got the camera I installed the Picture Motion Browser software and had no problem with that using the usb cord provided.

I’m not sure what the problem is. I try to follow the directions from the Vegas software but it’s not working.

If I could hook up with somebody who could help me through this I’d be very grateful

    Feeling stupid,

    Stewart

“I try to follow the directions from the Vegas software but it’s not working.”

Which directions did you follow? And what does “it’s not working” mean? Vegas Movie Studio can’t find the camera? Can’t find the files? Finds the files but gives an error message?

If you’re trying to use the Project > Capture Video option, I don’t think that’s going to work. It’s primarily for cameras connected by firewire, not USB. Try either Import DVD Camcorder Disc or Import Memory Recording Unit.

And if neither of those work (or even if they do) you should just be able to copy the files to your computer using Windows Explorer or that Picture Motion Browser software and then drag your files into a project.

Thanks for getting back to me…much appreciated.

…and sorry for being so vague…

I’ll try the drag and drop from the Pic Motion browser….although I’d swear I’d tried that too….

Let me keep working on it…and I’ll try to formulate a more focused query if (and most likely when ) I keep running into trouble.

again, thanks for responding to such a “newby” question.

Just to be clear, I’m not (necessarily) saying to try and drag the files from the Picture Motion browser directly into Vegas. I don’t know if that will work or not; I’ve never used that particular program.

What I mean is to use that program to get the files onto your harddrive (you said in your first post that you are able to at least do that). Then back in Vegas, use the standard methods of getting files from your harddrive into your project — usually just use the Explorer window to find them and then click / drag them into your project.

Hi…thanks for getting back to me…

So, I tried to import again. I used the usb cable to bring the file into this Picture Motion Browser. It will not allow me to drag and drop the file. Now, I dont know what a M2TS file is…but when I click properties on the file that’s what it comes up as. Why, I dont know. Also, when in Vegas and I click on “apture video” nothing happens. I’m tempted to remove Picture Motion Browser and let the computer just import the file without it. Certainly the computer defaults to that program. I’ll keep at it….and I want to thank you again for your help. The internet is pretty cool that way…I’ve helped some folks with a Roland VS 2400 recording studio set up I use.

Again, thanks…I’ll keep at it. Is there a firewire cord I can get to import….I bought the hdmi-hdmi cable…but my computer does not have a hdmi input…I dont even know if that’s done??!!

still feeling stupid…but determined to figure this out. I really thought a Sony camera and a Sony software product would be fairly straight forward….probably is….just me figuring it out.
