Do you have DropBox running?

Try turning it off for a while and see if that speeds anything up.

Also, when transcoding, are you still editing ro are you not touching FCPX?

I think at the very least, you should completely trash the index and start over.

Do this before you leave tonight and let it run over night.

If that doesn’t work, I reinstall of the OS might help. I don’t think any of this has to do with FCPX, but FCPX is hampered in performance due to this issue.

TUrning off spotlight via the Terminal will help you see if it’s the indexing of FCPX that’s not running correctly.

Yeah, I did all of that – using terminal, turning indexing off, trashing index file using Onyx app, restarting index yesterday, etc. I was surprised to see this indexing issue show up again on it’s own.

If you have done all the troubleshooting, then perhaps a Mountain Lion reinstall is needed.
