Importing Image Sequence
Posted by Spotcharlie on January 17, 2007 at 5:15 pmAny good way to import an image sequence. My solution has been setting the still image import to 1 frame then having to layout all the images in a sequence then use that sequence in my edit. I know with avid if you import an image sequence it recognizes the succession of the files and creates a video clip, anything like this on FCP? Thanks

January 17, 2007 at 5:36 pmNope there isn’t. You can render out the image sequence in After Effects, you can bring the image sequence into quicktime and render out a movie form there, or you can use a program like this:

January 17, 2007 at 7:58 pmYou can also compile an image sequence into a .mov in QuickTime Pro. I haven’t done it in awhile, but I think it’s found in the Import menu (if not, try the options under Open). After you import it, you can Save As, I believe (it may be under Export…check both)
Sorry I can’t be more exact. I’m rendering!

“Open Image Sequence” is right there in File Menu!
I don’t have an image sequence to open to test the workflow on the export/save end of this, but you should be able to figure it out!

January 18, 2007 at 3:44 pmyeah i knew about the quick time stuff. i just thought maybe there was something i was missing in FCP. I usually use avids, but some clients request FCP. Just wish FCP was technically as solid as an avid.

Open Image Sequence is what you want to use.
FCP is very technically solid when you know how to use it. Obviously you use Avid more and you know it better. When you use FCP more, you’ll learn more how it works. FCP is not Avid and Avid is not FCP, they both do the same job, but they do it differently.
