    Hi all–

I’m importing an Illustrator file into AE, and I’ve separated all the assets I want to manipulate into top-level layers in AI, but the AI project has multiple artboards. I’ve noticed that when I go to pull it into After Effects, it will only pull the layers that appear within the top artboard.

If I change the order of the artboards, to try to bring more layers into AE, it will disconnect the layers that were on the previously top-most artboard.

I’m thinking the solution is to save multiple copies of the AI project, each with a different artboard listed first. Then importing them into AE. Seems like a lot of work though. Is there another work around?

    Thanks!

Here’s a very good explanation of importing Illustrator files to AE:

If you just want to cut to the artboard issue, scroll down to Multiple Artboards.

Thanks Joe and Dave! Unfortunately I’m working with another designer’s work, which is, let’s just say, not up to my usual standards of organization. Thanks for the help!
