Importing Illustrator files into AE 7.0
Hi Everyone!
I recently upgraded to AE 7.0 and, for the most part, it’s great.
However, I do have one problem. In AE 6.5, when you imported an Illustrator file, it imported the entire piece of vector art regardless of the document size. However, in 7.0, it crops the art to the size of the document. Is there a way to turn this off? I often make very large shapes that I move around in AE.. and this could be a big pain for me to deal with.
Any thoughts?

When you say it “crops the art to the size of the document” I assume you mean the size of the illustrator document and not the ae comp size.
If this is what you mean why not just make your document size larger in illustrator so tha all of your art fits inside it’s border.Am I missing something?

Yes, I could just make the document size bigger. However, I often find myself creating hundreds of shapes in Illustrator and then doing the very quick apple+c, apple+n, apple+v, apple+s to make each shape their own documents. Having to re-size each document to the correct size could add some significant time to my production process.
I guess I’m just looking for a way to turn this new feature off, if possible. To be honest, I’m not sure what the benefits of cropping to a document size really are. I guess I can see how some people may like having extra information in their Illustrator file that isn’t imported in to AE… but I don’t work like that. 🙂
If there’s no solution, though.. I may have to learn!
