  • importing HDCAM EX shot in VBR to FCP2.

I’ve been playing around with the different formats the EX1 can shoot and I’ve found that I can only transfer the CBR ones to .mov files. If I force the others (VBR or ‘HQ’) to transfer, they just come out as white video (like I’m missing a codec?). But the VBR clips can be viewed with Sony’s XDCAM EX Clip Browser programme. Point me in the right direction?

You need the XDCAM transfer software.

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

Do you have FCP6? Earlier versions do not have the XDCAM codec.

Must be FCP 6.0.2 or 6.0.3. FCP 6 does not have XDCAM EX codec.
