I want to import an old 5.1c project to re-edit my motion graphics demo reel. Nothing too fancy to begin with, cuts only, 3 minutes duration, web resolution output only.

Could I bypass upgrading Premiere ($199) and import this old file into Final Cut Express ($299) since Final Cut is more widely used in my sector of the business?

I am upgrading my G4-450mhz with a OWC Mercury Extreme G4/933MHz-1GHz with 2MB L3 Cache for PowerMac G4. I suppose I will have to upgrade the OS 10. I would like to upgrade the latest OS to 10.4.5.

Also I may want to upgrade the monitor to a 23″ Apple display by purchasing the Radeon 9200 video card.

Will all this work together? Am I missing anything?

    Thanks

I think Prem 5.1c will let you export a Quicktime PAL DV file. Transfer via a removable HD or data DVD into FCP.

If you actually want a timeline from Prem… from memory 5.1c will let you export an EDL… does FCE import EDLs?
