I hope that someone can help me. I’m a new user of Final Cut Express HD. I’m using a MacMini and a Sony Digital Camera. I’m trying to import from the camera using a firewire connection. I can see control the camera through FCE, but when I click on Capture, then Capture Now, it brings up a window that says it “waiting for timecode”, push escape to abort. It never shows the video in this window, when I click escape, the video plays, but nothing is captured. What am I doing wrong.

    Hi Carolyn,

I’m a relatively new convert to Final Cut Pro, but I bumped into something similar when I first started, so Final Cut HD import might be along the same lines.

At least in FCP, “Capture Now” doesn’t use the camera controls. It’s sitting there waiting for you to actually press play on the camera itself, and won’t stop recording until you tell it to- very dangerous if you’re not paying attention and the tape finishes and before you know it you’ve filled your HD with black video. Not that I’ve done that. I mean, I’ve heard…

Anyway, again assuming a similar interface, look for something like “Capture Clip”. That ought to use the in and out you set (if you have, which you should) 🙂

    Hope that helps,
    Brandt
