Importing footage without AVID
I’m going to be importing footage from Panasonic/Sony cameras (not sure which) and the footage is going to be edited in AVID eventually, but I can’t capture it with AVID as I don’t have it on my Macbook Pro, I only have FCP. What is the best way to import it to make it easier for the editor that will eventually be working with the files in AVID?

Download the 30 day trial from Avid’s website and import it into Avid. Give them the media and project file and you’ll be good to go.

You’re welcome. And here’s the link to the Avid trial download – the 30 days starts once you install it and open it the first time, so wait until you’re ready to use it before you open it, or you might run out of trial time.

Before you import, make sure to back up the cards FULLY…full card structure, everything. Don’t use the NLE to import, then erase the card. You need to backup the cards, as those files are then your master tapes.
