  • Importing footage to separate tracks?

Posted by Roger Alexander on October 14, 2015 at 11:24 pm

When creating a new sequence and importing multiple clips, it puts all of the clips on one row, 1 after the other. I want to import each clip onto a separate video track. I’ve looked online but I haven’t figured out how to do this yet? Suggestions?

[Roger Alexander] “I want to import each clip onto a separate video track.”

Why? What are you trying to do?

    [Roger Alexander] “Suggestions?”

Select all clips in the project panel – right click – create multi-camera source sequence – synchronize by in point. Then you’ll have a multicam sequence where every clip is on top of another from the start of the clip.

Or did you mean that you would like the clips back to back on different tracks?

I saw that option but I thought it would send me to a different type of multicam editing mode so i skipped over it. I will try that when i get home from work.

I shoot and edit music videos, so I sync up all of my takes on different tracks with the audio file of the song. Then on each track I select the “best” clips from that take.

    Hi Roger,
I was searching for the same, and for the same reasons as you (i am also trying to edit music videos in the same way). Did you ever find a way to do this? I have 44 video clips (with audio for syncing purposes) and one master audio file, and i can’t work out how the add the video files with the audio on a separate corresponding track, so that i can sync with the master and eventually mute.
    Regards
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

Probably too late, but this seems to work for me:

    1. Select all clips you want to sync in the Bin.
    2. Change the “Synchronize Point” to “Audio: Track Channel 1” (Or mix-down if you think that will improve the result).
    3. Click on OK
    4. Right-click on the new sequence > Edit in Timeline.

That seems to work for me!

From there you can delete bad takes, and mute audio for all but your master track.
