Importing footage into Premiere Pro CC
Hello everyone!
This is my first post on this forum, and I am sure this topic has been covered in the past so I apologize in advance. I have been using PP for a couple of months now (transitioned from FCP 7). One of my biggest disappointments of the program is it’s inability to import footage within the program. Unless I am doing something wrong, I can’t figure out a way to do this.
I’m not complaining, but it does get time consuming when I have to dump tons of footage onto my external HD then import to PP. In FCP 7 there was “log and transfer” which allowed me to take footage directly from the SD card and it converted it into ProRes directly in the program.
Is there any feature similar to this that Adobe offers?
I am filming on a Canon XA10 and the footage is AVCHD and the file extension is “.mts”

You can use that natively (if you have beefy enough computer that is). Bring the footage in with the media browser panel in Premiere.

When I do that the footage only remains in the program as long as the SD card remains connected to the computer. Is there a way to import the footage so I can remove the card?

Copy the contents of the card to your hard drive. Do not alter the folder structure of the card and don’t just copy the media files.

Wondering how you solved this workflow? I’m just starting using a Canon 6D for video and using Adobe Premiere and take a lot of useless footage. Wondering what the best way is to import the clips from my SD card to my HDD – will eventually get an external scratch drive, so space isn’t an issue, mostly I don’t feel like wading through the chaff. Thanks,
