    Hi,

I wasn’t sure whether to put this question here or on the Avid forum, so I’ll do it here. Please let me know if I should post it over there. I work with Avid and After Effects. However, I don’t have Automatic Duck, nor do I have the budget to get it right now. I know that to export back to Avid, it’s best to use an OMF file, but how about importing from Avid? I currently use Quicktime Reference files, but I notice that sometimes my video looks grainy, when the source video doesn’t. I assume this is from compression. I have tried to export from Avid as an OMF file, but for some reason After Effects doesn’t recognize it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You could try to export a full, uncompressed quicktime from the Avid but that gets to be time consuming and the files can get quite large depending on what you are doing. What I have done in the past is use the quicktime reference as a reference only and rendering out my composite with the alpha channel to re-import back to the Avid, but again that really depends on what you are doing with the footage. I would highly recommend getting the Automatic duck plug-in. It really does speed up AE projects when working with the Avid.
