importing footage captured on Avid into Final Cut w/out booting up Avid
is there a way to convert Avid OMF Media Files to QT files that I can import into Final Cut Pro without ever boooting up Avid. I have all the Avid files on my firewire drive but i don’t have the Avid app installed on my personal computer yet, I only have FCP, and I prefer to do my editing on FCP.

But it is possible to use the media with the Automatic Duck Pro Import FCP plugin installed in FCP. Its $495.

Correction. The plug in only works with sequences. If you have not yet edited in Avid, its not going to help you.
You really made a big mistake digitizing your footage in Avid if you want to edit in FCP. Were you not able to export Quicktimes from your Avid system as you proposed in your earlier posting?

i tried exporting quicktime files (not QT ref files), but the sound somehow doesn’t get included. I don’t know why. I select audio in the options menu for export to be included and yet there’s no audio in the exported QT file. Any thoughts?
Right now the best solution for me seems to be to buy Avid. i can get it for under $300 with a student discount. I just didn’t see the point in owning Avid when I already have FCP and I’m perfectly comfortable editing in FCP, i really don’t care to have to learn another program.
To recapture everythying on FCP would be way more expensive. The source tapes are DVC-pro50 so i would have to hire a dvc pro 50 deck. Given that as the other option, I prefer to just buy Avid. -
If you’re a student, go ahead and learn both. This increases your value.

How much footage is there it may be easer and a whole lot cheeper to recapture
