I need some advice on the best way to work with some 720HD video that currently resides in Final Cut Pro on a Mac.

I’m using Vegas 9 Pro and need to add some additional clips to the front and back of the existing footage. As of now there is no need to edit that existing footage.

What format should I request they export? MP4? MOV?

Are there any codecs to avoid?

    Thanks in advance.

Render from the Mac using either ProRes which Vegas can read as long as you have the newer QuickTime player installed or the free Avid DNxHD codec.
This codec will need to be installed on both the Mac and the PC.

See that’s what I was hoping to avoid. I have no idea what codecs they might have installed- and doubt they’d be inclined to install one on my behalf.

AFAIK, FCP comes with ProRes these days so have them render it out in that format.
Make sure you have a newer version of QuickTime player as it has the ProRes reader built into it.

    Aha!

    Now I get it. Thanks!
