I don’t know if this is even the right forum, but here goes:

I’ve been asked by a client to instert a music video into the film i’m making. The only copy they have is on a DVD (dvd formatted so it’s all video_ts files). I want to clarify, this is the client’s material & absolutely nothing illegal is going on. this is the only copy they have & the software I’ve been using to rip it & convert to .mov files leaves it incredibly pixelated.
so far i’ve tried: xillasoft, PQdvd, & xillasoft Platinum.

    Anyone have any ideas??

Any and all help is greatly appreciated as I have no idea how to get this done.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
What you need is MPGStreamclip. Free downlad. You can comvert the MPG2 in .mov files with the codec that suits you the best. If you go to re-edit the clip I recommend you use 10/8 b Uncompressed or at least DVCPro50.

    Mike,
MPGStreamclip is a great piece of software. Not only to comvert from MPG2. Many people use it even to transcode NTSC to PAL, or in-between differnt QT formats.
When exporting (to QT movie) you can choose the codec that you want. I did recommend you 10/8 b Unc or DVCPro 50 because they are 422 codecs. At least you will get the most from your MPG2 (420) , mostly if you inted re-edit the clip. If you just export to DV the quality will be lower. Just make a little test and you will see the difference.
    Cheers
    Rafael

The programs you were using before are consumer level apps. The ones the guys here told you about are professional quality software.
