Importing EX-3 Footage?
I have a ton of footage shot on the Sony EX-3. Each shot taken creates a folder (not a single video file). In each shot folder are several files, one being the actual video file as an MP4 file. I understand there is a quick and easy way to extract all of these MP4 files into Vegas Pro 10e quickly. How do I do that?

I do not have the camera or the SXS cards. Only the files on a HDD.

I believe the XDCAM Explorer is the correct tool. Try View | XDCAM Explorer (Ctrl+Alt+5).

If the files are in the exact folder structure as the SxS cards you may be able to get Vegas to read them from a hard drive that mimics the cards structure using the XDCAM Explorer tool.

When I direct the “Import XDCAM Disk” to the drive and the folder called “CLPR” (where all the video file/folders are located), XDCAM Explorer replies back with “Import XDCAM Disk process failed”.
As it stands now, it looks like I’ll have to spend the day opening each file and dragging out each MP4 file one at a time.

Well, I’m trying a search (.mp4), copy & paste into a new folder. Seems to be working so far. Basic computer 101.

Ken, I hope I’m not too late to save you some time (and hair!!).
I run XDCAM EX ClipBrowser which is a separate program to extract MP4 files shot on an SD card with my JVC HM-750 and convert them to MXF format which Vegas loves.
I just tested it and it also works if I copy the entire BPAV folder over to a hard drive.
Just browse to the folder where the files are and extract them.

Yea, this might only work with XDCAM discs. I’m not sure. I don’t have an XDCAM camera.

Is there any problem in importing MP4 files into Vegas Pro 10e’s timeline for editing? Should I convert these to MXF?

Mike, it appears that conversion program does not work in WIN 7 64bit.

None whatsoever.
I find that my computer handles MXF files better than MP4 so that’s why I do the conversion.
Quad core, XP Pro, SP3, 2 GB. RAM
