Posted by Annu Lilja on October 27, 2008 at 4:00 pmHi!
How do I import material from a DVD to Final Cut so I can edit it?
Thanks!

That’s the ticket. Holly’s got it right. Works well and it’s free too. You can’t beat that.

October 27, 2008 at 4:25 pmI use a free download called mpeg streamclip. It sees the info from the Video TS and Audio TS and allows you to output a variety of formats that are FCP friendly. You can also set in & outpoints so there’s no need to convert the entire disc.

October 27, 2008 at 4:40 pmOne quick look at the FAQ section would have answered this question. It is in section “A” item #!. It was very nice of some folks to jump in and offer help, but the OP could have done a bit of homework.

October 27, 2008 at 9:12 pmHi,
does any of you have a suggestion what format I should use if I want to cut the material ripped from the DVD on my Final Cut? I want import the material to my FCP in using the best possible quality. What would that be?
Thanks,

You may want to start a new post as this is a somewhat different topic. People that respond will want to know what your sequence settings are, and how you intend to distribute the final video. Is it for broadcast, the web, DVD? Is the DVD footage being edited together with other footage? If so just match the capture codec to the rest of the footage.Good luck,

October 28, 2008 at 2:26 amHi Annu,
When you export with MPGStreamclip, dont choose “Export to DV” or you will get a DV Stream: The format used by iMovie (no TC and always need to be rendered in FC).
If you want to extract the best quality from the DVD set at least DV 50 as the codec.

There is a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on this very forum. This is what Dan was referring to. This is the answer he was referring to.
