I just shot my first footage on the P2 card
I am having problems importing the clips into FCP 5.1.4
I am using the camera as a card reader connecting it to my G5 mac by fire wire
no icon shows up on my desktop when I turn the camera on
when i go to file import in FCP and click on panasonic P2
a work space shows up but does not allow me to use any of the functions
    help!

Did you load the driver onto your Mac? If not, it’s on the CD that came with your camera.

When you put the CD in your computer and run the installer, it will install the appropriate P2 driver onto your computer. You won’t then easily find the drivers – they’re put somewhere I the Library, I believe, but you don’t need to find them for FCP to work. FCP will locate them itself.

So, did you actually install the driver? You might try re-installing if you’re not certain, since what you’re describing sounds like you don’t have the driver installed.

I don’t transfer this way so I don’t know all the details, however, I know you have to set the camera in the proper mode to do this. On the HPX500 you have to set the PC Mode (in Other Functions menu) to 1394 Device and then go into the MCR Mode. 1394Device Connect should appear in the viewfinder.

    Jon,

Is it possible to import P2 from the HVX-200 via firewire directly from the camera?

If not, I am also on the hunt for a p2 solution for my g5 desktop, as the powerbook with the pcmcia isn’t always in our office.

any word on if this adaptor works?

It appears to be 32-bit, im just curious if anyone tried it.

    thanks,
