Importing Canon Vixia Mp4 footage into CS4
Importing video from a Canon Vixia HF R400. Following very good Adobe tutorial, downloaded files in to computer and opened in CS4 media browser. Set up a new sequence with the XDCAM 720p30 and brought files to the timeline. Only problem is that even with the proper sequence set up (after checking the properties of the video and seeing that Premiere sees Canon Mp4 as XDCAM) still get a redline above the video in the timeline and it is slightly distorted…stretched vertically — not horribly but not right. Video is in the proper wide screen aspect ratio in the program monitor. Incidentally, the video plays perfectly in Windowx Media Player so I know the original download was done correctly. Can’t figure where the problem is.

Try just dragging a clip onto the new sequence icon and see what happens. Let PPro build the sequence rather than you inputting the settings. Might make a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion but can’t figure how to do it.As I understand it since PP 2 you must set up a sequence before you have a timeline and therefore you have to make a choice. The original video is 1920×1080 and I tried to use the “desk top” in the sequence pull down to see if that would do any better. Was able to type in 1920×1080 but the shot still comes in squashed vertically and with black bars of each side….very exasperating I’m an old DV and firewire guy so this is all new to me.

You can also highlight the clip in the project directory. Right click on it and choose “Create Sequence from Clip” It does the same process that Paul described to you, just with different key strokes.

Thanks for joining in. Again, I may be very dense but right clicking on one of the Mp4 files gives me a pull down menu that includes interpret footage, reveal in Bridge with “source settings and sequence settings” grayed out. Clicking on properties gives XDCAM-EX
1920×1080 frame rate 29.97. No create sequence from the clip.Jim Crum
