  • importing .avi captures into fcp-hd

I have about 20 hours of dvcam and/or dv footage, both df and ndf, that was captured perfectly into Canopus Edius 2.5 as .avi files. The .avi files contain original camera timecode and have all been “re-named” in Edius. My volunteer fcp-only editor tells me that none of these files can be used in fcp-hd….but a still photographer I recently met told me that fcp-hd can easily use-import-read .avi files via a simple, inexpensive pkug-in. Any help would be appreciated, as this is a pro bono charity documentary project with a 30-day deadline. Thanks……

There’s something called isquint, which is billed as iPod video conversion, but apparently can do a lot more.

I’ve edited AVI’s in FCP.. it usually works just fine. If they are DV they will very likely work.

I have all my files that were imported by Premier Pro 1.5 as AVI’s. When I import them into FCP 5, it warns me that I should re captrure the footage. But the footage plays fine and looks fine (in the canvas). Do I really need to re capture?

AVI is just a wrapper. like Quicktime. it’s not a specific format or codec.

You won’t know until something breaks.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
