Importing AVCHD from hard drive in FCPX 10.0.7
Hi,
I’ve read a lot about it on this and other forums, but since i’m running FCPX 10.0.7 the situation/workaround has changed.
The situation is the following: I’ve shot footage with multiple cameras (CX730, D3100 and a GoPro). All file based structures are copied to a external hard drive. The SD cards on which the original footage was shot are not in my possession anymore. I copied the entire file structure of the cards, so I wanted to choose ‘open archive’ in FCPX since i read about this option in multiple forums. However, in FCPX 10.0.7 this option is not available anymore…So the clue: how to import file-based AVCHD content which is stored on a external hard drive in FCPX 10.0.7? ( I don’t want to transcode the media with a converter or whatsoever, i would like FCP to handle the content)
Can anybody help me with this situation.

Simply go to the media import window and point at the folder that contains the AVCHD media? If you have transferred the entire file structure from the card this should work.

I also thought this would work, but as you can see it is not possible:

Just spotted on a Google search and it seems that the D3100 isn’t compatible with FCPX, you would need to convert first

You should have a .DMG that contains the clips, yes? If so, Mount it.
This clips will then appear in the clips table. You don’t want to navigate to the Stream folder. Won’t work …

However the content of the Sony CX730 is also not accessible when opening the folder in the import media panel.

There’s a free version of 5DtoRGB that supports single clip conversions.

I overlooked something!
The AVCHD file structure was just for the CX730. I misunderstood the content since i just found out that some (CX730-) footage was recorded on the SD card that came out of the D3100. In the usual ‘100D3100’-folder I found the .mov files.
Still strange that the ‘open archive’ functionality is gone with an update of FCPX, because I’m still looking for a solution of the (huge batch of) CX730 footage.
