December 16, 2009 at 6:38 amHi Patrick, great instructions. thanks for sharing. I’m glad to finally come across someone who has resolved this problem using the same equipment and software. Unfortuantely I have not (yet) enjoyed the same success…
I’ve not been able to process the .mts files even after saving them to my computer. You refer to a “Canon Video Folder” but I’m not sure whether you are referring to a folder you created for transfered .mts files or whether you copied the “CANON” folder directly from your camera’s hard-disk directory. On my camera the .mts files are located in the “BDMV” folder. so I guess my question is: which specific files or folders did you transfer to your computer in order for FCP6 to recognize the clips?
Finally I’ve learned it’s better to save original video clips on a separate external scratch disk. Did you log and transfer .mts files on an external drive? I guess I will try this once I manage to load at least one .mts file successfully..
many thanks for your feedback!

January 11, 2010 at 12:25 amI have a Canon HF100, followed the instructions above but all of the .mts (AVCHD files) are greyed out and are an “unsupported format”. I have my card in the SD reader; the video files exist as .mts files in the “stream” folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Current config:
Dell XPS 730 H2C
Quad Core Duo QX9650
Dual ATI 3870X2 Graphics Cards
6 GB RAM
Dual 1 TB Harddrives (RAID O)

January 11, 2010 at 12:53 amI am having the same issue. When I try and add, or drag and drop the .mts files I get the error message, unsupported file format…the .mts files are greyed out; there must be something really simple that I am doing incorrectly…or a check box that I must have missed…this is extremely frustrating, please help

January 14, 2010 at 2:54 amSame problem here: I was given a pair of .mts files (loaded onto my hard drive) and can’t get log & transfer to recognize them. When I point the “add folder” function to my folder of .mts files, i get the following Warning:
“avchd” contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
(“avchd” in the above is the name of the folder).
For this test, I’m running FCP 6.0.6 on my Intel MacBook, since I read somewhere that AVCHD support might not work on PPC. My main machine is still a Power Mac dual G5.
Any help on this would be much appreciated. -

February 21, 2010 at 8:01 pmOnly once I was successful in importing footage from Canon HG10 to FCP using L&T. Sorry but I don’t remember the settings I used to achieve that. One thing I believe worked for me was copying the entire folder structure from camera to my Hard disk and then try L&T. Tried same thing again but didn’t worked. As of now I am using Toast Titanium to convert files and import them into FCP.

April 21, 2010 at 10:06 pmI’m sorry if I’m totally missing the point here but I am trying to L&T footage from my new Sony XR550V and I keep getting an error message that this software is not compatable with ACVHD. I am well aware of how to L&T but I am about to have a complete melt down here… what can I do

June 8, 2010 at 10:37 pmHi Satish,
I have been having the exact same problem as everyone else- when I try and do a L&T I get the error message about it having an ‘invalid directory structure’
I am going to try using Toast Titanium aswell. what do you convert them too exactly?
Thanks

June 30, 2010 at 7:43 pmAfter a big long lame trial and error using everything I could think of, including just about every setting from Premier Media Encoder, I finally had to spend $50 on clipwrap to take off the wrapper. Now FCP 7 lets me import the files, which are now .mov instead of mts.
Don’t waste time trying anything else recommended here, as nothing else works for a sony mts file as far as I can tell.

July 2, 2010 at 1:17 pmIm an editor using final cut 6 and i recently boucht the sony nx5 camcorder it records in avchd and since then i have had lots of issues with gettin the footage and then i found this list from apple, it explains a lot of the troubles above
# AVCHD support is available only on Intel-based Macintosh computers.
# DVD-based AVCHD camcorders are not currently supported in Mac OS X.
# Standard definition video recorded with AVCHD camcorders cannot be accessed in the Log and Transfer window.
# AVCHD footage is transcoded to the Apple ProRes 422 codec or Apple Intermediate Codec.
# When you choose to transfer AVCHD audio in the Logging area, audio is automatically mixed down to stereo.
# AVCHD files are transfered as entire files from beginning to end.the link for the rest of the document is here
