Importing and Syncing Questions from someone coming from Avid
So I have a project basically starting from scratch and have some questions. Footage is shot on R3D with separate mic’d audio. Using CC 2018 on a Mac.
1. Syncing….. So I played with one clip and I seem to be able to sync using Timecode, so that’s good. Now for the Audio, the camera clips have 2 empty audio tracks on them. I see that I can check ‘Remove Audio From AV Clip’ and that made a synced clip with only the mic’d audio. So I don’t need to modify the camera clips beforehand to get rid of audio tracks, right? And if I check ‘Use Audio Timecode from Clip’ it means it is retaining the audio timecode from the sound and using that in the synced clip? I need the synced clip to use camera timecode for video and the sound timecode for audio.
1a. (if need to remove camera audio tracks before syncing) The camera files have audio tracks on them but I have sound recorded by a sound mixer on set, and the camera audio tracks don’t actually have any sound on them. I went into ‘Modify > Audio Channels’ and see there’s two ways to not have the tracks associated with the clips; change ‘Number of Audio Clips’ to 0 or uncheck the boxes under ‘Media Source Channel’. They both seem to ‘get rid’ of the audio channels, so what is the difference? Which should I do?
2. Batch syncing? Can I highlight all the audio and all the video for clips that need to be synced and do them all at once rather than doing one clip at a time?
3. Does it make any difference if I rename the clips to scene/take before or after I sync or make proxies?
4. Does it make any difference if I sync the clips before or after I make proxies?
EDIT: I went ahead and made the proxies before renaming and syncing so that the media files retained the camera file name. Going to rename camera clips now then sync.5. Is there anything else you need to warn me about before I get started? I have added the Sound Roll info in the SR column. Anything else I need to worry about to ensure a smooth finish for picture conform and sound editing?
Thanks!
