June 14, 2006 at 12:41 pmUSE THE HIGHEST REZ POSSIBLE ON IMPORT. RENDER OUT OF AE WITH A COMPRESSION SETTING OF NONE! AVI/QT/TARGA whatever, you can select none as a compression setting!
Or there are avid codecs corresponding to meredian compressed and uncompressed resolutions which you can use within ae when rendering out as avis and qts, presumably there are similar codecs for adrenaline systems which remove a lot of guesswork. -

June 14, 2006 at 2:17 pmAmheus, I used a non compressed quicktime (Animation with no compression) in AE, and the file is good, nice and clear, with very defined edges. Though when imported into the Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, the result is bad. I notice a big loss of resolution and blurred edges. Among the many tests, I made one where I created a quicktime file with avid meridien compression in AE. It’s actually worse than using Animation non-compressed file. I still haven’t found the reason why the original quicktime file is good, and when imported into Avid Adrenaline is bad. As far as I know, in the importing process I choose the right settings…

June 14, 2006 at 3:53 pmWhat, exactly, are the import settings you are using? What, exactly, are your render settings out of AE? Also, and this is the most basic thing to look for, is your Adrenaline in high quality mode? All green button at the bottom of the timeline? What resolution are you importing these graphics at?
Mike.

June 15, 2006 at 11:57 amThe import settings I’m using are: 601-non square; RGB; lower field first (though I have tried also higher field first and non-internaced, with equal bad results when imported); no-alpha. The Adrenaline is high quality set (all green on bottom of timeline). I import in resolution 1:1.
The rendering settings in AE I’m using are: NTSC 720×486; Full quality, Best Resolution; Quicktime-Animation non compressed. The quicktime file is nice, perfectly refined edges. When imported in Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, edges become fragmented and in general the image is not well defined. It looks like it is blurried. Mostly edges, as said, are terrible. Very pixelated. Thanks for concern! Any idea? Alessia -

June 15, 2006 at 8:17 pmThis may be a stupid question, but I’ll ask anyways…
Why aren’t you creating a tiff sequence out of AE? I’ve always done my AE renders that way and they’ve worked great.
I’ll go away now.

June 16, 2006 at 1:34 pmI’m confused. I’ve always been told to use NTSC D1 720×486; Pixel Aspect Ratio D1/DV NTSC; Frame Aspect Ratio 4:3. I work for an American Network that uses Beta Cams, DV25. I work in the graphic section and use an Adrenaline that can reach 1:1 resolution.
At this point I don’t know if 720×486 is correct…
When importing into Adrenaline, they told me to check the 601-non square. Maybe I should choose another setting in the import?
I just give it a try with 720×480, lower field first, tif seguence. The result is bad. Am I too picky if I expect, once imported into avid, the same image quality I create in quicktime or tif sequence in AE? Should I just expect I loss in resolution?

June 16, 2006 at 4:20 pmHmmm if you are importing into avid at a DV resolution you should by working at 720×480. If you are working in uncompressed then your image should be 720×486.
Also, I would double check your import settings.
If you are importing using 601-non square using uncompressed, and the original file size is 720×480, then you WILL get a distorted image, since the Avid needs to resize the image to 720×486. If you are importing with DV compression, then your image should be fine.
One last thing you can try is to change from 601 non-square to Maintain and Resize, square. If your frame sizes dont match you will get a black bar top and bottom, but your image should look good.
