  • Importing AAF via automatic duck – missing audio

Posted by Phil Knox on January 21, 2010 at 3:43 pm

    Hi,

We are reconstructing an edit from a few years ago (when we were using Premiere Pro) into FCP.

The Premiere Pro project has been updated to CS4. It has offline files, all with correct timecode references

The project was exported via the PremPro AAF format.

Via automatic duck, this AAF file was imported into final cut pro.

So far, so good – the files come in with the correct t/c references. All video tracks present and correct.

However, it loses the sync audio. On the audio tracks, it has correctly imported any non-sync (ie soundtrack or wildtrack) audio files but any sync audio such as an interview clip has the picture track correct but no associated sound file.

We have batch captured a couple of clips and this works fine for the pictures – correct timecodes and edits. The audio is captured but not laid down onto the timeline – which will greatly extend the time to complete the re-edit if we need to re-sync all the audio!

Any advice appreciated, although I do fear the shakey heads (Hmmm, Premiere to FCP – what were you thinking?!)

    thanks in advance

    phil

When we do AAF’s from Avid we get all the original tapes and re-capture all the media fresh on our FCP systems. We don’t bring in the capture files.

    Hi Walter –

that’s exactly what we’re doing, we’re using the project timecodes to recapture in the footage in FCP. No native capture files are being reused.

The footage captures in with the correct in and out points, the actual capture file has captured with audio, but the timeline in FCP is completely devoid of any sync audio. There are not even any placeholders for where the audio files should be.

Whilst I can then use the video in and out points to go back to the captured clip, set these in and out point and then put the audio sync onto the timeline, this will be a tedious process!

    Any thoughts?

    Many thanks

    phil

I guess this is a blank then.

Time to get the intern to resync the audio in the 15min film…

Will keep trying and if I work it out will pop a post back here.
