Hi there, sometimes when i import a file or replace a psd file in after effects, the file have the extension psd but only have 3 frames long and even i try to trim it to comp size, it doesn’t trim.
The only way to get around is, to open the psd file and rename it and save it in another location.
But sometimes not even that result, can anyone now why this happens, and how can i solve this?

It sounds like you are most likely importing a single item that AE is interpreting as a part of an image sequence. If your file names end in a number, then AE will assume that they are part of an image sequence and look in the same folder for other images ending in numbers. So if you have MyPic1.psd, MyPic2.psd and MyPic3.psd all in the same folder AE will create an image sequence of 3 frames when you import one of those images.

You can uncheck the “Image Sequence” checkbox in the import dialog when importing these images to get only 1 still image.

    Read here for more information:

There is also a preference that controls the default duration of imported still footage items:

But that should still allow you to trim or extend the layer in time.
