  • Importing 3D object into AE

    Hi,

    1) Can we import a 3D object into AE composition? If this can be done, what is the file type/extension that we can import and supported by AE?

    2) Also, is there any 3D object library online that I could go in to download or any source from internet that I can purchase to obtain the files?

    3) If we can import a 3D object into AE composition, will it affect the render duration that takes longer time? IS there any method to shorten the render duration if it is longer?

Hope could hear from anyone who know about this. Appreciate for any advice.

    Thanks a lot!

You can import 3d objects using Zaxwerks Invigorator. AE alone cannot bring
    in 3d objects, however.

You can download some free 3d objects by going to 3d CAFE. You can then
control the objects’ movements by using controllers in AE as shown in
    John Dickinson’s Invigorator tutorials.

I have done some 3d animation using this method and it is the only way to go
without using an actual 3d program. I love it.

    Hope that answers.

    1. Yes and no. AE is not made for it so you need to use Zaxwerks invigarator which will load some objects. It’s usually a better workflow to use 3D objects in a 3D application, render out passes and comp them in AE. If you need matching camera then import the cam data from the 3D app.

    3. Well, yeah. But, Zaxwerks is not too bad. Usually the render time hits in 3D land is from raytracing, Refractive index transparency, displacements, etc. None of which Zaxwerks does as far as I know.

Also look in the Cow archives. This question is asked everyfew weeks it seems.
