Is there a way of importing 16:9 files from Avid? Encore (1.5) transcodes at 4:3 and there seems to be no way of setting the aspect ratio to 16:9 – the option is greyed out in the Timeline Properties window …
    Any advice gratefully received.

The aspect ratio setting for a timeline is locked to the aspect ratio of the video you put in it. (It’s only changeable when you put still images in the timeline to make a slideshow.)

What’s really happening here is that Encore is reading the QT file as 4:3. Not sure why that is, or how to fix it. Encore’s not terribly adept at handling QT files. The best I could recommend would be to transcode the QT file to MPEG-2 before you import it into Encore.

have you changed the PREVIEW settings to 16:9 in the Encore “PREFERENCES”, and then previewed the project to see what aspect it is actually playing back at?, I am not familiar with QT files at all as i have never worked with them. You could try exporting from Avid as a .AVI file and then import this into Encore..
