When will the day come when Adobe realizes that they are potentially liable for installation errors in their packages…if they don’t get it right a class action law suite is emanate.

To be fair I believe it has something to do with QT render engine when previewing from PPro CS4 crushing the GPU…I just get so tired of this crap. Test on lowest common denominator and beat up your software…instead of finding a config that works and throwing it out to the public.

OK maybe I am over reacting but every install CS, CS3, and now CS4 is an excersize in patience and dillegence. Finally if it were not for communities such as this Adobe would actually have to invest in a functioniing support system beyond a Bangalor tech who has the capabilites of reading a script and repeating all day long.

No wonder Bollywood is doing so well, lots of script talent!

If anyone figures out why HDV and some instances of P2 crush the ImporterProcessServer.exe in Windows Vista while previewing in Premier Pro I would appreciate it. Currently transcoding everything to Raylight/ProRes to function. Anyone else running ProRes on PC it seems to work quite well and is a great hand off to FCP fellers.

We pretty much edit P2 everyday without issues, mostly 1280 / 30p.

In fact I find P2 to be the least processor intensive out of all the HD formats I’ve edited so far in CS3/4.

I can’t speak for HDV, but XDCAM is a little new in CS4 and the playback takes a big hit with any effects applied in full quality, unlike P2.

Can you tell us a bit about your machine, especially the amount of RAM ?

There’s obviously something messing up your install, have you done a clean install. Hard disk format, new OS, and CS4 alone ?

ProRes needs FCP, I don’t see how you could get it on a PC without some sort of hack, if that’s even ever been done.

Um…ok, do you have any plugins in the machine? Extra codecs?

Is the QuickTime updater shut down? It was interfering with CS4 on my machine.

    Running Panda antivirus?

What else is running on the machine?

I edit ProRes QT on my PC system…there’s a Windows decoder. It works pretty well.

    Tim,

First time I hear of it… Does it decodes to Prores, or another format?

What are the preview render options?

The preview render options for the sequence stays the same on the PC…MPEG I-Frame or AVI…

The ProRes decoder loads into QT and it reads ProRes, it doesn’t transcode to anything. It runs like anything else. You can’t encode out to ProRes of course.

    It worked fine…

    Thanks Tim,

That makes sense, it could come in handy some day.

Although I would probably rather have a QT animation export for edit.

I don’t know how much you’d gain by converting the material to Animation before editing it…You could always export it to Animation after it’s edited of course…

I mean Animation out of FCP, instead of ProRes. I seems people are using these intermediate codes as main exports these days.
