I just downloaded a QT file using Avid’s DigiDelivery for the first time. I told them that I was going to use FCP to edit the file they were sending me. So, I’ve imported the file into a FCP project and noticed in the browser window, under the “compressor” column, the codec name is: “Apple YUV422 Codec (yuvs)”. My sequence – as it is – requires a render (red in timeline). I can’t find a matching codec in the sequence settings options. Question: Where can I find this codec… do I need that or should I just render the sequence? It looks great! It just won’t play back without a render.

    -Thanks

Are you able to play the movie in QT or FC? If so, you have the codec installed.
The only Apple 422 codecs are the Uncompres (8/10b) and Prores.
If you are in FC6, the application will be able to set the proper codec.

When I import the file it plays BUT only after I render the sequence. I’v noticed if I click anywhere on the sequence window, the “Red” unrendered status comes back! (like it lost the render info file) I got tired of messing with it so I did a “Uncompressed 8-bit” Self Contained QT Export (After a Render) and then Imported it back into the sequence and so it no longer requires a render. Still, I’m curious about that codec they sent me.

    Thanks Rafael for your input.
