  • Import video file from Canon 5D into Vegas

    Hi Guys,

This is my first time taking video with my new toy and onto a CF card. I’m trying to figure out what is wrong when I import my short video footage clip taken with my Canon 5D Mark III off of the CF card into Sony Vegas Pro8. All the footage shows is black. My pictures I can import with no problem. I can import the footage clip into the Canon Image Browser EX with no problem for editing and plays. (Format is H.264) Any ideas would be appreciated.

My guess is that your problem is that you are still on version 8. I don’t think that the support for the 5D was added until Pro 10 or later. I started experimenting with video from the 5D in May, and had no problems with it. I was still on version 10 in May.

BTW, I do not import CF card files from within Vegas. I always use Windows Explorer to move files from the CF card to my hard drive. I can then import from the hard drive into Vegas. I did not think that Vegas’s import function would physically move files.

Yea, you can’t expect old software to work with a new camera. I would definitely upgrade Vegas Pro and your problem will be gone. Download the 30-day trial and see for yourself.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for your response and I thought that might me my problem. I have Vegas Pro 12 sitting here and not yet installed it because I’m in the process of building a new computer. This gives me the big push to get my butt in gear and get it done.

Thanks guys and see you in Vegas for NAB.

    Ahhhhh,
I have the same problem just when trying to load a set of time lapse images on 10e.
ALLTHOUGH………..It seems to work fine with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10.0.
    Go figure. ???

Bill, please start a new thread for your problems as this should not be happening. I load time lapse images into Pro 10e a lot and never have any problems.

    Never mind.
I have no idea what is going on with this as video from my 7D doesn’t show up in the preview window eiher although the frame count is incrementing.
