    Hi all,

Wondering if anybody knows of any software or plugins for FCP that can import transcriptions into FCP. It would be great if you could link the transcription to a clip or sequence. The other feature I’m looking for is that the transcription would run like a script, following the timecode that the transcription service places in the file.

I found something called Storycut by Sienna. It’s similar to what I’m looking for.

At NAB 2007 I remember seeing the FCP would have something like this built-in using XML, but haven’t been able to find any more info on it.

Thanks for any info or leads!

Not available in FCP at this time. It is available in Adobe CS4 I believe…although that might be part of it’s own internal transcription process.

I do know for a fact that Avid has this…Script Sync. Although I think it is more geared towards Narrative scripts, it might work for documentaries too. I might have to test this.

But no…nothing internal in FCP does this.

Thanks, Shane. It would be such an added help for all those documentaries being cut with FCP. As great as FCP is, I feel like this has always been its achilles’ heel.

Does anyone out there who went to NAB 2007, when FCP 6 was announced, remember seeing this as a potential feature? Could’ve sworn it opened up in a floating window and the text moved in sync with the video. Even if it was never developed, I’d love to know if anyone else remember it…

    Shane,

in Avid it works sweetly for transcripts as well as narrative scripts. only difference is that someone has to transcribe the whole thing first.

would be a cool addition to FCP…

    Michael,

if this feature is crucial to you, then you need Avid.

It’s not a deal-breaker. More of a “why isn’t this a feature, yet?” Plus, we’re well into the project with FCP.

Thanks for the recommend, though. It does seem that Avid has the only answer here.

I would really love to see this feature soon. I am acquiring a large amount of interviews and am transcribing all of them. I will be doing all of the editing as well. Most of my work will be based on transcripts.

This needs to be in Final Cut, yesterday!

Rather than wait for FCP to get a feature you need (don’t hold your breath), why not just learn Avid?

Kevin, you make a good point! We all should know both systems.
