    Hi

Today i was trying to import some footage from my camera to Final Cut through log and capure. When i clicked on capture the black box came up as usual and under it, it said “allocating disk space”, it stayed like this for a while and then Final Cut just froze. I had to go and Force Quit. I tried this a couple of times and the same thing happened. There is alot of disk space both on my lap top and also on the external hard drive that i saved the project to. I have been using Final Cut for a long time now an this never usually happens. I have no idea whats wrong with it.
If someone could help me out with this issue it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Aine

Please give full specifications, computer, OS, FCP version, QT version, camera, drives, settings on media, settings in FCP, how everything’s connected. Start with that.

    All the best,

    Hi Tom,

My computer is a powerbook G4, Mac OSX. Final Cut version pro HD, QT pro, Sony HDV Z1, at the moment im only trying to import something very short (3 min) so i was using a passport WD 160 G external drive (its what i usually use for my music), the computers HD has 30 G free space on it. The camera is connected to the computer by fire wire, the external HD is connected by USB, all scratch disks are set to the exernal, The footage is HDV however i do have the down-convert camera set to on. apart from that i am doing everything that I would normally do when importing.

    Thanks for responding so quickly,

    Aine

    Which PowerBook G4 exactly?
Which version of FCP exactly? Older versions of FCP will not work properly with current versions of QuickTime and the OS.
    Which version of QuickTime exactly?
Which version of the OS exactly?

Apple does not support the use of USB drives with video applications. Only FireWire. There may be other issues as well. How is the drive formatted? Mc OS extended?

What settings are you using? Make sure you have the correct menu output for downconvert.

    All the best,

    Tom
