I am a Vegas/Movie Studio user. Wanted to try Resolve now.

I need to import those nice free lower thirds:

    https://bluefx.net/after-effects-templates/free-lower-third-template/

Those are mov files containing a png codec. Resolve won’t recognize these files. I converted and saved them in Vegas, then imported them in Resolve: Works of course, but I lost the alpha channel for the transparent background.

Now I tried to add an alpha channel in Resolve: Works as well but looks a little crappy around the edges. Not very nice ;( Maybe I can fine tune them, but I’d rather use the original ones: Those already have an alpha channel.

Any idea how I can get these files with their alpha channel into Resolve?

    Thanks 🙂

Easiest thing might be to run them through After effects or Fusion and output a different version with an embedded alpha channel.

DNXHD, Animation, or even a tiff sequence can all handle alpha channels. Not sure if prores can do alpha.

you could also run it through one of those programs and just output a matte version, and use resolve to composite it back together.

Apple ProRes 4444 should support alpha channel.
