March 6, 2008 at 2:46 amFirst, be sure you have the entire Quicktime suite installed. You don’t need QT pro, but you do need the authoring components.
Second, what codec does the QT container have in it? If the files were generated from FCP, they’re likely a format that can’t be opened easily in Vegas, and may need some massaging. If they are for example, AIC, or ProRes, then they will not open in Vegas without Quicktime Pro. If they are DVCProHD, you’ll need Raylight and QTPro to open them.
Or, they might just be an MJPEG codec, or other “normal” codec, and you merely need the authoring components.Douglas Spotted Eagle

April 19, 2008 at 10:49 pmI am having the same problem. Every time I try to open or import a .mov file, an error occurs and Vegas closes out.
Once I did get the file to import, and once I dragged the file into a track, the video was ok but there was no audio, even though the peaks had been built.

April 26, 2008 at 9:34 pmHaving exact same problem; files play fine in the current QT app, but will not import into Vegas 8.0b; this occurred after installing latest QT version – prior to that, it would come up but no audio as you said! If you get this figured out, please email me as to the solution…thanks, Frank

February 21, 2009 at 1:39 amI have the exact opposite problem. I import a .mov file into Vegas (7.0) and I get just the audio and no video. I just assumed the the audio track was an mp3 file within the .mov file.

it may well be just that. A .mov file is merely a container. Think “Paper bag holding groceries” with a list stapled to the bag of what’s in it. .mov can contain many codecs, and as long as it plays in Quicktime, it’s not required to open in anything else.

That doesn’t help either. I have QT Pro and AIC mov files on my PC, but not even QT Pro will open them right. I get a blank screen and sent to https://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=Windows&ctype=696d6463&csubtype=69636f64 – which doesn’t offer any help.

October 31, 2010 at 3:51 pmIf you’ve installed the Prorez codec and QT can’t open the files either, then something didn’t go right with the codec install.
